Samsung, IBM, Infineon, Chartered Develop 45-nm Chips
September 01, 2006
Samsung, IBM, Infinion, and Chartered have manufactured their first functional chips based on a low-power, 45-nanometer process technology co-developed by the four companies. The 45-nm chips were produced at IBM' 300-millimeter fab in East Fishkill, New York, and outpace the 65-nm chips by at least 30% in performance. Furthermore, the new technology features GDSII (Graphic Data System II) compatibility, making it suitable for many manufacturing facilities. The 45-nanometer process is projected to be installed and qualified by respective companies of the alliance by the end of 2007.
